Abstract
Ceruminous adenoma is rare neoplasm of external auditory canal (EAC) and can present a diagnostic difficulty because of their varied clinical and histological manifestations. We experienced a case of EAC mass extending to middle ear and mastoid cavity which was first diagnosed as malignancy on frozen biopsy, but confirmed as benign ceruminous adenoma on permanent pathology. Further imaginary evaluations reveal that no other abnormalites were shown except EAC, middle ear, and mastoid cavity. A complete surgical excision via subtotal petrosectomy was done to prevent recurrence. To our knowledge, most of reported ceruminous adenoma cases have been localized to EAC, making this case uncommon. Herein, we present a case of histologically confirmed EAC ceruminous adenoma extending to mastoid and middle ear cavity with brief literature review.
